  1. Hi ladies I wasn't here for this class so I hope I answer this in the intended manner. I am glad that I realized sooner than later that my fulltime job is not paying me a decent living wage and with big dreams of homeownership, paying off my daunting school loans etc. I needed to do something. I have always been frugal with money but I count that as a step. For example, I usually bring food from home for lunch. Furthermore, if I buy from outside, I usually do not buy a drink and rather drink water which I bring with me. Furthermore, I got a part time job on the weekends. My next step will be to get a third job that I can do after work on weekdays. Also, I will learn about stocks to see if I can earn money from that.

    1. Hi Shacoya, is not always easy living with family or anyone period. However, it can really help as a guide ti help you get ahead. Specially if you don't want to see yourself in that situation ever again. Taking a negative situations and turning it into a positive one could give you a much better outcome than the one expected.

  3. Some measures I took to adjust ti the reality of feeling underemployed were as follow: #1 i moved in with my daughter for a while in order to make ends meet. #2 I learned to take advantage of the circumstances and began to focus on gaining more work experience instead of dweling on tge fact that I was underemployed. #3 I made it a priority to grow my faith knowing that it will get better. By putting those things into practice, tiday I can say that Im happy with my latest job, the atmosphere I work in and definitely the pay.

    1. That's amazing Laura! Once things dont go your work is a lot harder to stay positive. But it is inspiring to see that you were able to grow in faith, and that you are currently enjoying your new job.

  4. One thing that I did was move in with my mom to save some money. After I moved out of my mom's house, I got a roommate to help split cost. I have also learned to budget and be more conscious of where my money is going.

    1. Hi Sarah that is great that you were able to find other ways to deal with being underemployed. Continue with your budgeting and I pretty sure being underemployed will be something of the past.

    2. Hi Sarah,
Moving in with a relative does help if you have that option, and a roommate can help as well if you find the right person...these are definitely some great short term ways to cut the cost of expenses...

  5. The steps I took to stop my self for being underemployed was I completed servaeral free SNAP employment programs at Capital Community College. Then I signed up at CT Works and sat with at least three different employment specialist to build my resume and cover letter. I also researched how to have a successful interview and did some role playing with my friends. These tools have helped me obtained my current job, and highest pay income.

    1. Ashley, good for you! Im glad you were able to take advantage of such programs. I took advantage of those free programs years ago. Today I still keep an eye for any FREE training that I can get my hands on. The more experience, the more doors you will see opening.

    1. Things take time. I believe in faith and fate and things may seem to go backwards and just completely overwhelming, but with gaining new skills and experiences, things will get better.

  7. I find this a difficult question to answer. Truthfully, I have had my parents and siblings to fall back on when I was unemployed, but the stress of not having a job was very great and definitely a blessing. I do make sufficient income now, however, because I want to have greater income flow for a home purchase, I am contemplating getting a side hustle such as working at a store or something along those lines.

  8. I quit my full time job and enrolled back in college. It was the best decision I could’ve made. I do private hire and I’ve been doing small jobs to make extra cash on the side. I’ve learned that even though it may seem like you’re moving backwards you’re really not. Sometimes you have to take 1 step back in order to move 6 steps forward.

  9. If I was unemployed. I would first update my resume and attend DOL Office to improve on my interviewing skills. Then I would start applying for jobs. With the skills I have learned. And make use of all the knowledge I have learned from this class.
